Evansville VOICE BAM Oct. 26 5:30pm to Celebrate Impact, Urge Engagement

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke and Leadership Evansville CEO Lynn Miller Pease to celebrate transforming power of award-winning VOICE initiative, urge citizens to keep participating

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke and Leadership Evansville (LE) CEO Lynn Miller Pease will share their excitement for the widespread, transformational impact that their award-winning VOICE initiative has had on the region and our community at Monday’s VOICE Big Action Meeting (BAM). Miller Pease will host the meeting at The Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana at 318 Main Street in downtown Evansville Monday, October 26, 2015, beginning at 5:30 p.m. They will celebrate VOICE’s far-reaching impact – touching the lives of more than 250,000 people in Southwest Indiana – and invite the public to join the energizing work underway on numerous VOICE projects or even begin their own.

“When LE and Mayor Winnecke joined together to launch VOICE in 2012 as an inclusive way to enable citizens to envision their preferred future for Evansville, we couldn’t have predicted that in just three short years we would’ve reached 250,000 people in our region,” said Miller Pease. “VOICE remains a force for positive change for a simple reason: it liberates thinking. VOICE is shifting the spirit of our community away from negativity and toward an inspired, ‘I can do this!’ attitude. One that motivates people of all ages and diverse backgrounds to roll up their sleeves, explore new ideas and create the kind of positive future they envision for Evansville. It’s changing their lives. Voice created a culture that made it possible for all people to realize- If I can envision something our community wants or needs we can do it!”

That kind of ongoing impact is earning VOICE praise and building the buzz. Two Indiana organizations recognized the unique public-private partnership recently for results created by its innovative approach. In August, LE earned the “Excellence in Innovation” award for VOICE from the Indiana Leadership Association. Next, the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns (IACT) recognized The City of Evansville and LE for VOICE by naming the program a 2015 Community Achievement Award recipient at its annual meeting in September. Then, Miller Pease shared the remarkable VOICE story in her TEDx Talk to a rapt audience at the inaugural TEDxEvansville event on October 13, 2015.

The application of the rich data and information resulting from VOICE to inform regional planning and economic development activities takes its impact to another level. From the I-69 corridor development and Evansville’s in-process branding initiative to Southwest Indiana’s entry in the State’s Regional Cities Initiative, VOICE continues to benefit our region today and into the future. This and more will be part of the engaging presentations shared at the Monday, October 26th BAM Meeting at the Arts Council.
